Legal Issues With Online Gambling
intense discussion and debate in many countries. Most countries around the world have not yet legalized online gambling; while most local governments in the U.S see this as a topic of serious contention and requiring discussion, some governments are still unaware of (and sometimes indifferent to) the emergence of online gambling as an issue. Most efforts and discussion is centered on regularizing certain legislations for online casinos so that they have a set of guidelines that need to be followed. Some countries (like Russia) completely prohibit online gambling, whereas other countries (like Germany) offer relaxation when it comes to putting wagers on horse racing online. In the U.S, most states allow for online gambling, as long as the sites are properly licensed and follow the regulations set by their respective jurisdictions.
One point to be noted is that most of the legal issues that may arise are for the providers of such services, and unless there is a public declaration or prohibition by the government, it is not illegal for the people to register or play online. Of course, intentionally breaking the law would be considered an offence. Currently, gambling regulations vary in different states in the U.S, and are limited to the rules set by a particular jurisdiction.
